Morbid though it may be, the Carbon Floor was the place he came to rest for a moment. Maybe not relax - it was too cold and full of ghosts - but it was a sanctuary of sorts, a place of serene darkness and reverent silence, a world apart from the hectic chaos of the rest of the island. Nobody was permitted, or even desired, to come here apart from the Warden. Only himself and vast machines, frozen statues that would never thaw. In this land of death, it felt like time itself had frozen, like he'd reached its end.
