There's a hole in the sky, where a galaxy used to shine. Well, it's not really a hole; it only looks like one.
It's the most unjust form of damnatio memoriae that Porridge can imagine. The destruction of vast numbers of innocent people sits poorly on his conscience, like radioactive fallout. It doesn't matter that the slaughter took place long before his own lifetime. The actions of his ancestors make him feel guilty, all the same.
There was certainly no more effective way to eradicate the Cybermen in that particular region. But there had to be a less bloodstained one.
