Summary: Lita sends a survey probe into the mountains first.
Lita let go of the little drone and its dragonfly-like wings buzzed into life, carrying the spherical body, mostly a camera with a sophisticated enough AI to avoid most dangers, into the air. She pointed to the mountain pass and the drone darted off towards its target. Looking down at the apparatus on her wrist band, she watched the machine's progress through tiny cracks in the rock face she hadn't even realised were there, seeking the quickest way to reach its destination. Its various sensors picked up all sorts of background information as it went, all of which popped up readouts on her wrist-mounted monitor.
"I'm detecting various signs of life," she reported, "Unlife, too, and AI, and... some things that don't make sense, shouldn't be possible. I'm even picking up human activity. It could just be residue from the relics they leave behind... there's a strong magical presence in the air, too..."
"Whatever it is, we should be on our guard," said Sara, "This isn't like the other places we've been to in our quests. I've just got this feeling. Something's not right."
Wordlessly, Dem finished polishing his sword, strapped it to his side and led them onwards.
